Yardena Elhanan Kurulkar was born in 1971 in Mumbai, India. After completing her BFA from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai she went on to pursue her Masters at The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

In 2002 she acquired a grant from The Charles Wallace Trust for postgraduate studies in UK. Yardena then moved to Toronto where she was an artist in residence at The Living Arts Centre in Ontario, Canada. Here she spent two years pursuing her art and teaching part time, following which she returned to her hometown in Mumbai. Her first solo exhibition in 2011 titled Transience at Gallery BMB, Mumbai was shortlisted for the Skoda Art prize in 2012. In the same year she was shortlisted for the Art India Breakthrough Artist award. In 2015, she won the Powershow, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan followed by Winning the ‘64th Blake Prize, Liverpool, BC, Australia in 2016 for her work Kenosis, where she used 3D printing technology to excavate her own heart and portray its slow disintegration in water in a series of 15 photographic prints.

Selected participations include solo and group shows at Chemould Prescott Road (Mumbai, India), Gallery BMB (Mumbai, India), Delmar Gallery (Ashfield, NSW), Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (Liverpool BC, Australia), the Kochi Muziris Biennale (Fort Kochi, India), NGMA (New Delhi, India), Living Arts Centre (Ontario, Canada) and Art Basel (Hong Kong).
